Science Curriculum
6th Grade
Course Purpose: |
Sixth grade students will use earth/space science, life science, and physical science principles to identify and describe interactions between them. |
Outcomes and Components:
SC.6.1 | Students will develop models of simple atoms and their extended structures and model how energy and matter changes phases.

Standard(s) |
SC.6.1.1 | Define atoms as the smallest units of matter with unique properties and identify the structure of an atom. | MS-PS1-1
SC.6.1.2 | Describe change of state as a cause and effect of particle motion. | MS-PS1-4
SC.6.1.3 | Describe the role of pressure in phase changes and how these changes are due to energy transfer between objects. |
MS-PS1-4 MS-PS3-4 |
|
SC.6.1.4 | Relate heat energy to change of phase of matter. | MS-PS1-4
SC.6.1.5 | Describe particle motion of pure substances using phase change diagrams. | MS-PS1-2
SC.6.1.6 | Differentiate between heat and temperature - Compare Fahrenheit, Celsius. | MS-PS1-4
