Kindergarten

Course Purpose:

Students will explore the fundamental elements of music physically and aurally on a variety of instruments, and begin to analyze how music is connected to their home, community, and lived experiences.

FA.KM.1 Students will keep the steady beat and the rhythm of a known song on a variety of instruments and verbally and visually be able to differentiate between the two.
FA.KM.2 Students will perform and improvise using quarter notes, quarter rests, and two eighth notes on a variety of instruments, using visual aids and manipulatives.
FA.KM.3 Students differentiate between and perform different stylistic contrasts in music (e.g. high/low, fast/slow, short/long, loud/soft, 4 types of voices).
FA.KM.4 Students will prepare and perform, vocally and instrumentally, a variety of age and range-appropriate musical selections, with considerable guidance.
FA.KM.5 Students will make connections between literature and music and between personal emotions and music, and will select personal music to fit with a work of literature.
FA.KM.6 Students will sing accurately on sol and mi and explore and demonstrate various elements of music and movement (e.g. musical patterns, same/different, moving in a self-space, moving in a circle), , through the performance and analysis of classroom songs.
FA.KM.7 Students will  improvise and perform (with iconic notation) level borduns and melodic patterns (same/different, high/low), in AB and ABA form, on both pitched and unpitched instruments.
