Students will compose more complex pieces of music and make connections between present day music and fundamental American musical genres. |

Students will analyze the music of a variety of composers of non-classical music and choose two composers with similarities (age, nation of origin, preferred musical style) to compare and contrast. |

Students will investigate the history and structure of jazz music. |

Students will perform a selection of appropriate vocal and instrumental music, in large and small groups, from a variety of cultures and traditions, including at least one student-composed piece and one student-selected piece. |

Students will examine Hip-Hop music, identifying and analyzing its historical roots, its role in historical and social movements, and its impact on American society. |

Students will improvise and compose basic instrumental works using a variety of scales and modes, on both pitched and unpitched instruments. |

Using a digital audio workstation (DAW), students will create a musical work in standard pop song form. |
