Music Curriculum

4th Grade

Course Purpose:

Students will perform on the recorder independently and will compose short works of music on a digital platform.

FA.4M.1 Students will prepare and perform a selection of pieces for soprano recorder and demonstrate proper performance and practice process for learning new music.
FA.4M.2 Students will analyze the music of a variety of composers, making connections between the composers’ music and their personal history and/or country/culture of origin.

Students will improvise and compose, using standard and non-standard notation, musical and rhythmic phrases of various lengths using eighth/sixteenth note combinations, and both compound duple and triple meter.

Students will prepare and perform a variety of age and range-appropriate musical selections representing different cultures and traditions, both vocally and instrumentally.

FA.4M.5

Students will, through the study and analysis of a standard orchestral work, connect literature and poetry to music.

FA.4M.6

Students will through analysis and performance of various classroom songs, sing and improvise independently on the notes of a diatonic scale, using rhythms to include eighth/sixteenth combinations.

FA.4M.7

Students will, on both pitched and unpitched instruments, improvise and compose (with standard notation), including various ostinati and borduns using two and three mallets.
