Science Curriculum
4th Grade
Course Purpose: |
Fourth Grade students will generate and compare explanations in order to describe patterns. |
Outcomes and Components:
SC.4.2 | Students will characterize forms of energy, describe wave structure to carry energy, and explain how energy is conserved when it is transformed from one form to another.
Pacing Instruct/ Assess |
Component Code |
Component |
Standard(s) |
SC.4.2.1 | Identify the various forms of energy including sound and light (waves), heat , and electricity . | 4-PS3-1
SC.4.2.2 | Define the relationship between waves and energy. | 4-PS3-2
SC.4.2.3 | Identify the measurable qualities of waves (amplitude and wavelength) and how they are related to the amount of energy being transferred. |
4-PS3-2 4-PS4-2 |
|
SC.4.2.4 | Verify and model that waves can move objects in various patterns. (ex. water waves move water up and down, sound waves move objects back and forth) |
4-PS3-2 4-PS4-1 |
|
SC.4.2.5 | Verify and model how heat energy is transferred by direct contact or movement through a fluid. | 4-PS3-4
SC.4.2.6 | Use models and evidence to describe the effects of magnetic force/fields on objects. |
3-PS2-3 3-PS2-4 |
|
SC.4.2.7 | Design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another, and analyze multiple solutions that use patterns to transfer information |
4-PS3-4 4-PS4-3 3-5-ETS1-2 |
|
SC.4.2.8 | Characterize the role of fuels in the production of forms of energy and how that production affects the quality of Earth (ex. climate change, water pollution, strip mining, etc.). | 4-ESS3-1 |
